Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language here is Norwegian, but most kids learn English in school. The students I meet at university come from around the world; I have met people who speak Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Arabic.

What type of money is used here?:

Here, people use Norwegian Kroner (which means crowns). Ten Norwegian Kroner is worth about one U.S. dollar. It is unusual to use paper money, though; most businesses only take credit cards.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs about 20 to 30 Norwegian Kroner.

What was the best meal this week?:

This week, I ate at my favorite restaurant in Oslo called King Falafel. Falafel is a fried ball of chickpeas, and is often served with vegetables and hummus.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I play percussion in a community brass band, and have been listening to a lot of marches in rehearsals. A brass band is a group of musicians playing instruments made of brass, like trumpets and tubas. There are also a few percussionists playing the drums.

When I'm studying, I like to listen to orchestra music. I also really enjoy folk music by artists like John Denver and Gordon Lightfoot.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I had a lot of fun at rehearsal with the brass band.
