After Tita passed away in 2020, it awakened the pride in my Mexican heritage, and I really made the effort to learn Spanish so I could strengthen the connection I have with my living paternal grandparents, and my Pops' side of the family who only speak Spanish. Living in Argentina has just opened my eyes further into the different Spanish, and the pride that people have over their dialects and culture. It is beautiful in a diverse kind of way.
There is no "proper" way to learn or speak Spanish. It is a lifestyle that you immerse yourself in and in my experience, for life.
