Hi, all! It was so great to talk with you, everyone in Ms. Cummings' class, and to see your amazing restoration project. As we talked about, it reminded me of Puma-Wasi's work in the community of Mushullakta. Over the last few years, they have been reforesting their previously monocultured farms with many native, medicinal and/or edible plants to preserve their culture and language, sustain their community and change the world. Your dedication to your class's project can do just that, and change the world! It all starts with a seed... both literally and figuratively!

I've been able to help out at some of the community's farms here in Mushullakta. I've helped plant seeds, transplant plants and make points on a digital map when they are sown in order to keep track of what types of plants are growing and how many. In just a couple of years, Puma-Wasi has sown almost 12,000 new trees, which is truly incredible and not an easy task.

Because you all are working hard on your native plant project, I wanted to give some words of advice.

A common saying in English is, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade," which means that when sour things happen, there's always a way to make them sweeter.
