Hi, class! I heard you are all preparing for your science fair. I know that this can be both a challenging and fun time!
When you are thinking about your projects, I challenge you to think about your dream in life. What do you want to accomplish? Do you have any big goals? It might seem as though science has nothing to do with your passions, but I promise you that you can find a little bit of science in everything. It's even more important to realize, though, that you don't have to grow up to get started, or even to accomplish, your life dreams and goals.
During the last two weeks, I took a class with friends of all ages from the community here, Pintag Amaru, where we designed different projects to help the community. There were three groups. The first group wanted to build a garden that could serve as a meeting place and a source of provisions. Another group wanted to create a space, physically and emotionally, to help support the community's mental health. My group wanted to start a small, women-owned business that would both produce goods using natural products in order to create an alternative source of income for the women here and preserve the plants in this town and the knowledge of how to use them. Believe it or not, we all used science!
