Ona's Autobiography: Welcome to my Journey to Taiwan!

Murphy is the furthest town west in the state, and there were only 500 people in the town I lived in. While working in Murphy, I took my first ever solo trip out of the country. I returned to Spain and Germany and met up with Aaron, my pen pal, to watch a Twenty-One Pilots concert in Berlin.

Working for a year after college allowed me to discover a new passion, which was working with young people! In Murphy, I founded a youth program that connected high schoolers with the community through service projects and helped them develop leadership skills. I decided that I wanted to combine my love for working with young people with my desire to travel and study new languages, and this led me to apply for and receive a Fulbright grant to teach English in Taiwan. I loved my time in Murphy, but I was also eager to get back abroad.

Now I live in Chiayi County, Taiwan where I teach 3rd-5th grade English to Taiwanese students. I also take Mandarin classes, play volleyball with local college students and spend my weekends traveling around Taiwan and learning how to play mahjong. I am so excited to share my journey with you all back home, and thanks for following along! 謝謝你們! (Thanks!)
