What Being a Student in Munich Is Like

For this break, everyone leaves the room and I usually go to the nearby store to get a snack and some water. Then, I usually sit in the study areas until break is over. We have our B1 speaking exam soon, so we like to practice with each other during breaks. When break is over, we all head back to the classroom and finish the lesson. Our professor, Ms. Feldman, always tells us we do not have to speak perfectly. All we need to do is try. Ms. Feldman always makes learning German feel fun. The class is even having an excursion to a brewery in June. It will be a small tour, but in German.

The Software Engineering course occurs on Thursdays. This class is also from 10:00am to 1:15pm with a break as well. In this class we learn about the Software Development Life Cycle. This class is hands-on which I enjoy as it keeps us engaged. We usually are split into groups and are tasked to write simple code for an issue or an app idea and then we work with the other groups and put together our sections into one project. This allows us to simulate working in a company and coordinating our project.

For our exchange programs at Mississippi State University, we get credit for the classes we take abroad, but they do not affect our GPA, allowing students to solely focus on the experience. For example in Munich, the only grade we get is the final exams. We have homework, but it is almost never for a grade. The professors usually access you by your participation in the course to see how well you are doing.

Sometimes, I stop at Munich Central Station and grab a sweet treat from Rischarts bakery. Rischart has the best Käsekuchens (cheesecakes) in Munich! Next, I go back to my dorm at Olympiapark to study.
