Pupusas: The National Dish of El Salvador

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

The tortilla part of a pupusa can be made with either corn or rice. Originally, pupusas were made only with corn, but when corn became scarce in the 1930s, people began using rice as a substitute. Rice pupusas are a great example of how the dish adapted to local conditions and available resources.
