Mongolians speak… Mongolian. Historically, the language has been written using the traditional Mongolian script, adapted from the Uyghur script and adopted in the 13th century during the reign of Chinggis Khan. However, after the Soviet Union subjugated Mongolia in the 20th century, the authorities imposed the Cyrillic script onto the Mongolian language, and the Cyrillic script is still commonly used today.
Mongolia’s official currency is the tugrik, or MNT. As of this moment, one U.S. dollar is equivalent to 3,573 MNT.
I went to take a look at the small convenience store at the base of my apartment building. A typical 500ml-bottle of water, depending on the brand, is being sold for between 900 and 1800 MNT, or between $0.25 and $0.50 USD.
There is a small family-ran lunch restaurant that's about five minutes of walking away from my apartment. I went there to have a plate of tsuivan for lunch on Monday.
