I visited Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, for Hannukah this year. Hannukah is a festival in the Jewish tradition celebrated for eight nights, and it also happens to be when we have our winter break in Israel! While in Budapest, an Israeli I met introduced me to Lola Marsh. Lola Marsh is a local duo from Tel Aviv, one of Israel's major cities. Their music is very calming and is written in English, so I have been listening to it on my commute to school.
Every Sunday in Israel I have an activity with the Americans that live here in Rehovot with me and one Israeli that lives in Rehovot that is helping us adjust to our lives here in Israel. There is a total of 12 of us, 6 in each apartment. This Sunday we had a cook off. Each apartment was given a bag of groceries bought from the local store and we worked together to create a meal for us all to eat together. My roommate Sarah and I were in charge of dessert, so we made Banana Boats. We used to eat these all the time at camp in the United States, so we wanted to bring a little bit of home to Israel. To make a Banana Boat, you leave the peel on the banana, then create a slit through the middle, put in chocolate, marshmallows, and peanut butter if you wish and then wrap the banana in tin foil and stick it in the oven. The dessert was delicious and helped our team win the cook off!
