in order to be nice, and a German might be disappointed when no one actually makes the dinner plans! Polite lies like this are not as common here in Germany, and people tend to be more direct about their intentions and desires. Despite the differences, I do love living here and learning to think like a German. Doing so helps me to understand the intentions of the people I meet and reminds me of the consequences of my own behavior while in Germany.
