Hi, I’m Alex! I am twenty-six years old, and I want to be a German teacher one day. I was born in South Carolina, and I have two sisters back home in the States. I love all things German! I also love biking, board games, video games and cooking. Most of all though, I love my cat Hugo. He is back in the USA, and I miss him every day. I will be here in Germany until the end of June, so about 10 months in all. I will be coming home for a couple of weeks around Christmas and the Winter Holidays though. I wanted to be close to my family for that time. While I am here, though, I want to start a club for students, improve my German and teaching skills and make some new friends.
I already mentioned that I like board games. I want to start a club at my host school where students can play board games in English. This might sound easy, but remember that English is a second or third language for most of these students. They will need to play smart and speak in a new language all at the same time. If it works well, I may start another club when I return home to the USA.
People often ask me why I chose to study German. The answer I give is usually, "Because I didn't like French." The truth usually takes longer to tell. I took French for a few years when I was in high school in South Carolina.
