The Döner - A Turkish-German Delicacy

When a customer places an order, the cook places a pita in a hot press and shaves some of the roasted meat from the spit. He or she then piles the meat into the open pita and adds the onions, cabbage, lettuce, peppers, and tzatziki sauce. The food can be served either on a plate or in a paper bag for customers that want their food to-go.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Döner has only existed in Germany for about sixty years. That was around the time that Turkish immigrants first started coming to Germany in large numbers. These immigrant groups now form a major part of the country, and their food is well known for its flavors.
