Amazingly, the plantain was cut from a tree in my very own backyard. Since I live in a finca, a medium to large rural property surrounded by nature, it is normal to throw organic food scraps into the outdoors, where they are eaten by birds, bugs and a type of rodent called a carmo. The scraps, including the plantain peel, turn into compost and give nutrients to the surrounding plants.
