The Plants and Animals of Galicia

I also get excited to see the birds, especially when they are a unique bright color, but I don’t like when they get too close to me because that usually means they are about to steal my food! It is also fun to see the similarities and differences in the types of flowers, plants and birds that we have in the United States compared to Spain.

Where does it live?:

Both flowers and birds live in the parks and gardens of Spain's cities. I have noticed that each city I have visited has a few parks and gardens with several different types of flowers and birds. The flowers grow out of the ground or along a man-made structure, like a statue or planter, while the birds live in the trees and fly down to the ground to find food, sit in the grass or swim in the water of the ponds. There are also many other species outside the cities that I can't wait to discover.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

The flowers use the rays of the sun and rain water to survive, while the birds look for food, like worms or seeds, in the grass and plants on the ground. However, I almost always see the birds looking for food on the ground of the streets, especially near the many cafes and restaurants, because they know people will drop food or crumbs. I also find birds in the river or ponds seeking out water or food or even cooling off from the heat of the day.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Sometimes, pollution or litter from the city can harm the growth of the flowers or cause them to die. The weather changing from hot to cold is also causing many of the flowers to wither and die, but I already can't wait until they bloom again in the Spring!
