The Grand Palace

During my first weekend in Bangkok, my program took us on a trip to the Grand Palace! A palace is a place where the Kings and Queens of the country live! Sadly, the King of Thailand does not stay in this Grand Palace, but the royal families of the past did. Past royal families are the reason why the Grand Palace is so popular today. It is a no-brainer why my program would pick this spot as our first trip! The Grand Palace is one of Bangkok's biggest tourist attractions. The trip was planned for the entire day. This made me think that the palace had to be huge if we needed an entire day just to look around it!

The Grand Palace was in Bangkok, so Saturday morning we left our dorms in Salaya to head to Bangkok. We traveled 19 miles by taxi to Bangkok. When we arrived, the place was unbelievable! The air was filled with the smell of roses, while birds chirped throughout the sky. We saw beautiful flowers and giant trees throughout the lawn. There were tall, red and white temples everywhere! Each temple had small studs in it, which shone everytime the sunlight touched them. The sun was especially bright on this Saturday, it was 90 degrees!

In this hot temperature, we were forced to wear long sleeves. In order to enter the palace, each person had to cover his or her knees and elbows. Wearing clothes this way is a sign of respect. Inside the palace, there were more temples.
