Mountains, Lakes and Cows... Oh My!

After taking the time to take many photos and talk about the area with my friends, we got back to the bus station where we took a 30-minute ride into the mountains to see the famous lakes of Covadonga (Lagos de Covadonga). On the way up, though, we came across heavy fog. It was so bad that we couldn’t see in front of the bus! Along the way we saw cows, horses, goats, sheep and dogs along the roadside. It was also very scary to look down and see nothing but white!

Once we finally arrived at our stop, my friends and I had to walk around a bit to help us relax after that scary bus ride. We also talked about how we were afraid that the fog wouldn’t go away in time for us to see the famous lakes and views. After walking around a little and seeing some museums in the area, we saw that the fog was leaving and the sun was coming back! Excited, we ran the last few steps in time to see the fog leave the lake. It was one of the most beautiful sites I’ve ever seen. Green hills rolled into a large lake that was so clear and showed the rocks below the surface. The large mountains stood tall in the background, rocky and gray.

My friends and I turned to each other with huge smiles on our faces. We had made it to Lago de la Ercina, and with perfect timing. We walked to an area close to the water to take pictures and eat our lunch. The view was the best I’ve ever had to look at while eating a ham sandwich.

After spending over an hour and a half eating by the lake, we decided it was time to get up and explore the other lake as well. However, just as we got up, another wave of fog came down into the valley to cover up the lake.
