Journal Entry:

It is fitting that for the first time I have ever travelled outside the United States, I came to Spain where my family is originally from. More recently, my family is from Texas and I was born in Galveston, Texas. Galveston is an island about 50 miles south of Houston, so I grew up very close to the beach which I loved. My favorite part about growing up in Galveston was listening to the seagulls every day, and whenever I hear seagulls anywhere, it reminds me of home. I am lucky enough to have two brothers and three sisters that I grew up with, and we share many great memories from being together for the first parts of our lives.

When I was in 5thgrade, I moved to my father’s house with one of my brothers, Lorenzo and we no longer lived on the island. My brother and I became so close through middle school and high school that I wanted to graduate with him, but he was one grade ahead of me. I took extra classes during the summer in order to catch up to him, and we graduated from Clear Springs High School together. One thing about me that is easy to notice after having a conversation or two, is my love for my home state of Texas. For college, I wanted to put some distance between myself and my home but also to stay in Texas; that is why I decided on Austin College.

Currently, I am studying history and education at Austin College in order to become a teacher.
