Getting Around the U.K. (Without a Car)

Introduction:

In the United States, I use my car all the time, whether I am going to school, Walmart, the movies, or anywhere in or outside of my town. In the United Kingdom, however, many people, including myself, do not have our own cars. However, since the U.K. has such good public transport, I am able to get almost anywhere using trains, buses and my own feet!

How do people get around?:

Like in the United States, most people in the U.K. use cars. However, many others, especially the university students I have met, do not own a vehicle but use public transport to get around. Trains and buses are both common modes of transportation. Buses are cheaper than trains and are especially convenient if you are traveling short distances around town or from a train station to a hotel or another place of interest. Trains, however, are faster and a lot of fun. Some people also buy cheap plane tickets in order to go to other countries in the U.K. and Europe, like Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

Taking the train is my favorite way to travel around England. It always feels like I am going on an adventure, and I get to see the beautiful English countryside while I am traveling.
