Trying British Food

Introduction:

The United Kingdom has many traditional foods such as fish and chips, Yorkshire pudding and scotch eggs that can be found at restaurants and pubs all over the country. Many of these foods came from specific regions in the United Kingdom, like Cornish pasties from Cornwall and cream tea from Devon. In the couple of weeks that I have been here, I have learned about many English foods and tried numerous items for the first time. Almost all of the foods I have experienced have been great!

What food did I try?:

This week I tasted a couple of different types of Cornish pasties, a traditional beef pasty and a chicken pasty.  Cornish pasties are a traditional British food, and while their name suggests they come from Cornwall, some people argue that pasties originated from in Devon, the county I am studying in. Cornish pasties are made from a crust that is filled with different fillings, generally meat and vegetables.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I bought the pasties then went to eat them in front of Exeter Cathedral. It was a cold day, so the pasties did a good job of warming me up. They tasted good, and I was surprised how much the chicken pasty resembled the chicken pot pies I have had in America. These pasties cost about 2.50 pounds each, which is a good price considering each pasty can act as a full meal.
