English is the main language spoken in the United Kingdom. However, my roommate and some other people in my dorm are from Spain so I also hear Spanish frequently along with a few other languages like Mandarin Chinese from other international students.
The United Kingdom uses the pound sterling. One pound (sometimes called quid) is equal to 100 pence (like pennies in America). There are 5, 10, 20 and 50 pound notes commonly used, while coins normally come in one pound, two pounds and 5, 10, 20 and 50p (p stands for pence). Unlike American dollars, which are made of cotton and linen, 5 and 10 pound notes are now made of plastic so they are waterproof and hard to tear.
A single bottle of still water costs about one to two pounds depending on the brand.
My best meal this weak was a chicken and mushroom pie with mash (mashed potatoes), gravy and peas. I had this meal at the Ship Inn, a pub in Exeter.
