Hi everyone! My name is Nicole Doyle, and I am originally from Queens, New York. From middle school to high school, I attended The Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria (or TYWLS). It may sound familiar to you because there is another TYWLS in East Harlem. After high school, I was recruited to join the Division I rowing team at Marist College where I am currently a senior. I am a double major in Communications and Spanish, and a double minor in Political Science and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. I am the first in my family to go to college so graduating in May is not only a big deal for me, but it is a big deal for my family.

Today, I am studying abroad in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. I am taking a few classes about the culture of the Caribbean, and the history, culture and political systems of the Dominican Republic. I am also living with a host family. My host mom’s name is Cristina, but I call her Charo, and my host dad’s name is Francisco, but I call him Pacho. They have a daughter, Michelle, who is 32 years old and has three children of her own. Santiago is known for El Monumento, which I can see as soon as I step out of my front door.
