The "coolest" thing I saw, both literally and figuratively, were the gigantic Swiss Alps that occupy much of the country. I was lucky enough to hike along a mountain trail with an amazing view of the surrounding snowy mountains.
The Cinque Terre region of Italy, or the "Five Lands," is a region consisting of five cities along the northwestern coast of Italy. The region is actually recognized as a national park, and it offers much in the way of beautiful hikes along the mountainous coast and lots of excellent seafood and pasta. From the trails, we had excellent views of the Mediterranean Sea as well as of the local farms and villages in the surrounding area.
