Herzlich Wilkommen in Deutschland!

I also am interested in reading the works of German philosophers such as Immanuel Kant. I learned German so that I could read the writings of German musicians and philosophers in their original language. In the summer before my senior year, I conducted a research project on a German organist named Andreas Werckmeister (1645-1706), who wrote many books about music theory during the Baroque period (a time period in music history that lasted from 1600-1750). I worked in the archives at the New York Public Library and translated parts of his treatises from German into English.

Because I wanted to keep improving my German skills and gain teaching experience, I applied for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Germany. I was very fortunate and received this award, and that is why I’ll be living in Dresden and teaching English to German students for the next 10 months.

Vielen Dank (Many thanks) for joining me and bis bald (See you soon)!
