There are about 92 million people in Vietnam. What could they possibly use to drive here? In this country, the landscape is very diverse and vehicles must be able to drive on many different terrains. While many families in America have cars, many families in Vietnam have motorbikes. In fact, out of 92 million people, 45 million of those people own a motorbike. Even tourists in Vietnam sometimes like to get a motorbike taxi or rent one to go sightseeing. To understand why this is true, it is important to learn about Vietnam's culture, geography and environment.
In Vietnam, many people use motorbikes to go to any number of places: to work, school or to the store. It is not uncommon to see an entire of family four riding a motorbike (with helmets, of course). To own a motorbike that can reach high speeds, you need to be 18 years old and you must have a license. People who are younger than 18 can still drive around town without a license if they have a bike that travels less than 40 miles per hour. Younger students tend to use electric bicycles or "e-bikes" because these are small and less expensive than a motorbike. I have a simple peddle bike with a basket in the front. Even though I cannot go as fast as those with motor or electric bikes, I can still go where I need to go. My style of bike is popular, and I often see others riding the same model.
