As a British colony until 1997, the two official languages in Hong Kong are English and Chinese. Therefore, signs throughout the city are in English and Chinese. Still, most Hong Kong locals speak Cantonese, which is a dialect of Chinese.

The currency of Hong Kong is the Hong Kong dollar (HK$). 1 HK$ is equivalent to $0.13 United States dollars (USD).

The average bottle of water in Hong Kong costs 8.5 HK$, which is equivalent to approximately $1.08 USD. 

What was the best meal this week?:

My best meal this week was the Mexican food I had in Hong Kong, because I thought it would be a couple of months until I would have Mexican food again. I enjoyed every bite of my tostadas!

What music did I listen to this week?:

I have learned to ask taxi drivers to play music whenever I take a taxi. It not only breaks a perceived language barrier, but helps me to connect to the culture based on the music played, which has ranged from Chinese pop music to romantic Chinese ballads. Additionally, each bus driver plays their preferred music, which has included American pop music from the early 2000s to soft Chinese music.
