I was traveling around Europe for the Christmas holiday. This week, I flew from Bucharest back to my home in Suceava, covering a distance of 221 miles, or around 355 kilometers!
So far on this journey, I have traveled 6,375 miles or about 10,259 kilometers from Los Angeles to Romania!
This week, I took the metro in Bucharest. This is a big, underground train, very similar to what you have in New York! It was very busy because of all the tourists visiting the city for the New Year celebration. I also took a small airplane from Bucharest to Suceava. Here in Suceava, I usually walk or take the city bus wherever I need to go.
I got to visit and tour the Palace of the Parliment in Bucharest with some of my Fulbright colleagues. This is a huge building that was built during the time of communism in Romania by the dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu. It is the second largest administrative building in the world after the Pentagon in the United States.
