The best meal I ate this week was a torta, the Spanish word for sandwich, filled with carne enchilada (spicy meat), potatoes, onions and salsa verde (green salsa). It came with a mix of freshly squeezed orange and blackberry juice. Street food is the best food in Mexico, and I am glad that I have lived here long enough to eat it safely! Normally foreigners have trouble eating street food. It takes your guts a couple months to adjust to the bacteria found here, but now that I've been here for a few months, I can eat it without any problems. I just make sure to go to stands where I can see that the food is hot and cooked through. A good rule of thumb is only to eat food that is steaming at stands frequented by locals.
This week, I listened to lots of music in English. Especially around the holidays, it's nice to have a little bit of home to keep you company when you are far away from loved ones.
My favorite activity this past week was relaxing at home. Work started again on January 7, so I took advantage of the time off to sleep in and read.
This week, I read La Isla del Tesoro, Treasure Island, in Spanish. Since I haven't been speaking as much Spanish over winter break, I wanted to practice a little. It was a quick read.
