Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I didn’t travel far from home this week. I visited my friends in two neighboring towns, Sungai Petani and Jitra. Both are quite close to where I live, only 30 minutes to one hour away!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

As I’ve only been here a couple of months, I have yet to travel outside of Malaysia, but I’ve traveled quite a bit inside of Malaysia! I’ve been to Kuala Lumpur, which is the capital city of Malaysia and is bustling with people and shops. I’ve been to Ipoh, Perak which is a more scenic place and has beautiful temples and mountains. I’ve been to Georgetown, Penang which is also a city complete with colonial architecture and incredible food. I’ve visited Langkawi which is an island off of the coast of Kedah well known for its beautiful beaches. Malaysia is a beautiful country where there are many different kinds of places to visit, and I still have so much more to explore!

How did I get around this week?:

The program that I am a part of provides each household of English Teaching Assistants one car to share! Driving in Malaysia is different from driving in the U.S. because they drive on the opposite side of the road and the steering wheel of the car is also on the opposite side of the car. Basically, when I drive here, I have to do everything backward from what I’m used to!
