This week, I took a visit to the capital city of Switzerland, Bern! Some of my friends live in this city and I decided to pay them a visit and see a new spot. Since I live in the French-speaking city of Geneva, it was very cool to see the German-speaking city of Bern. Albert Einstein lived a lot of his life in Bern and you can see tributes to him all over the city.
My favorite thing I saw in this city was a woman using an alphorn in the streets. An alphorn was used a long time ago for people in the mountains to communicate with each other. Now, the alphorn is an important part of Swiss tradition and is used as a musical instrument. This woman was playing songs to entertain shoppers.
You can see the differences in the culture, the food, and even the buildings. Walking around, you hear a lot of people speaking German, but all of the signs and storefronts were in French as well as German.
As the capital of Switzerland, Bern houses most foreign embassies in Switzerland and is where the Federal Government meets to make descisions for the country. It was really cool to see another place in my host country and it was definitely beautiful.
