Farewell for Now

Location:
Karlovy Vary Czech Republic
Journal Entry:

So much has happened to me this year since I left Thailand and the United States to come and teach in the Czech Republic. I have made countless friends, visited two new countries and toured a dozen new cities. I learned new words in another language and tried different cusines and recipes. I couldn't be more grateful for my time abroad and my life in the tiny city of Lanškroun. New experiences like this push me to grow and adapt to situations I have never been in before. Living in Czechia has strenghtened my ability to communicate in other ways besides English, or any spoken language for that matter, and I have experienced what life is like for immigrants who come to work and live in a country without knowing much of the langauge or customs.

When I return home to the United States, I plan on continuing to explore international education and policies in a graduate program, like a master's degree or perhaps a doctorate. I would like to work in Washington D.C. to help establish laws and decisions about quality education in the United States and around the world. My time as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant has made me appreciate that education is a fundamental right to everyone and the quality of that education is also extremely important for successful local and global citizenship.
