Recognizing different perspectives and tailoring your speech to fit the culture is a good way to adjust to life as a foreigner in South Korea. Many people will come to appreciate your efforts in doing so. I found it funny that my Korean professor told me that, even though I'm American, the way I behave seems to be similar to the way Koreans behave, and the only thing that marks me as a foreigner is the way I dress, and that I smile at people a lot. I was just being mindful of the cultural quirks that they have such as taking things with both hands and bowing instead of waving. But it seems I was taking on more of the culture than I thought I was which is a good thing overall!
