A Day in the Life

If you wear those colors everyday, people might ask you if you’re feeling sad or if you‘re getting married! I like to wear bright colors like blue and purple with a hint of gold. My dresses are long and fit my body the way I like. Dressing up makes me happy.”

What do you like to do in your free time?:

”On Sundays I go to church, unless it rains. Than I watch church on the T.V. I don’t really go out much; I get very tired. My friends and family like to come and visit me and the family, so there is always something happening. I like to go to weddings, too. Even our funerals are not very sad. The pain is there, but we like to celebrate life. Ghanaian music and dance feels good and I can be myself when I dance. The students who stay with me always say, ‘Wow you go to funerals and weddings every weekend!‘ It is true! Our families are large and we have a lot of friends. It's fun to get together with other people. My daughter also visits every day with my two grandkids, Nala Li and Nala Co. They are a handful.”

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

”Many of us just say hello! We speak E,we in my house, and if you want to ask how someone is doing you say, Ɛfoa  (pronounced Efwa). You have to give it an accent when you say it.“

Do you have pets?:

“I have two dogs, Hazel who is a white Maltese, and Lion who is a Caucasian Shepherd. Lion is still a puppy so we keep him outside. He is a giant for a puppy! Hazel just had puppies of her own, so now she is a mommy! God bless that they are all healthy.
