A Day in the Life

We have thought about moving down the road to a bigger home because we would like more space!”

What is your family like?:

“All of my family members are different but we love each other. We love to joke in the house. My husband is a carpenter and deals with very big plots of land. He is very funny and devoted to God. My kids are very hard working and determined people. Leslie is in law school and just took a big exam so he can be done for good. Now he wants to move to the United Kingdom so he can be a lawyer there, too. I said, 'Why can't you just stay home!' Oliver is an accountant and is working on building a private business of his own. The people in the family keep to themselves most of the time, but we come together in the living room to watch T.V. or have conversations. My daughter Pearl who does not live with us is also an accountant. She visits me every day with my grandkids. Being an accountant is a demanding job, but hard work is important for you to grow.“

How do you get around?:

”I normally walk to the corner and take a taxi to work. Sometimes Leslie drives me to the taxi station, and if we see Emily walking to school, we pick her up, too. If I visit a friend, my husband will normally drive me, or my friend will pick me up. I do not drive myself, but I am lucky to have people who can help me.”

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

”I like to wear dresses and skirts. All African prints are made here. They make me feel beautiful and they are very nice fabrics. You must have a good seamstress; it makes a difference. In Ghana, colors can mean different things. Blue and white fabric is worn to weddings and red and black are worn to funerals.
