I am a classical violinist so I listened to a lot of violin pieces this week. I brought my violin with me to India and I sometimes play Western classical pieces for my Indian friends here. India has a rich culture of music, ranging from the Carnatic (pronounced Kar-not-ic) music tradition that has lasted for centuries to the catchy Bollywood tunes on the radio. Western classical music is not as prevalent here, so I enjoy sharing it and exchanging notes with my friends who enjoy other types of Indian music.
It's always fun when my experiments in the lab go well! I am trying to manipulate the brains of flies in the lab, and so far it seems to be working. A more detailed report on my research will come soon.
I am reading a book called What is Life? by Erwin Schrödinger. I am a biologist and am fascinated by questions about how life originated on Earth. This book explores life from the perspective of a physicist and describes how life emerges from and follows the laws of nature you might have read about in your physics textbooks!
My labmates and I decided to enjoy an afternoon of team-building activities, so we drove to a nearby resort to play paintball and do archery. This was my first time playing paintball and getting hit hurt quite a lot, but I was a decent shot in archery!
