Sabaidee! (Hello!) My name is Claire and I was born and raised in a small city in Iowa, called Cedar Rapids. It has a population of about 300,000 people, which is very small compared to Brooklyn's population of almost three million people. That's almost as many people as the entire state of Iowa! Iowa is best known for our many fields of corn and farms with pigs. Actually, about 90% of the land in Iowa is farmland! And while we don't have any professional sports teams, we do have the World's Largest Truck Stop!

While it may sound like there isn't much to do in Iowa, I love my home so much that I even decided to go to college in Cedar Rapids! I went to a small school called Coe College and studied Biology, Neuroscience and French for four years. I was in many different clubs and volunteered for many different organizations in my city during college, including an ESL (English as a Second Language) center for adults. I taught English, one-on-one, to adult students who wanted to be more fluent and even helped people to study for their US citizenship test.

I loved teaching English and learning about my student's cultures so much that I decided to take a couple of classes in college that were based in other countries. I took a class in South Africa and Swaziland that was about how their healthcare systems work.
