Phi Phi Island

They would casually stroll along the streets and sometimes people would stop and take pictures of them. Everywhere you looked, you were bound to see a cat lounging on a spot of sun. Restaurants had cats inside them. Since most stores and restaurants don’t have doors, the cats just climb the steps and stroll inside, just like the tourists! Except these cats know exactly where to go. A few cats were clustered around a man selling chicken skewers because the cats knew that sooner or later he would give them chicken! Sure enough, he smiled and started feeding the cats some of the chicken as we were watching!

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I was concerned at first when I saw the cats. I didn’t know if they would bite or hiss and of course the cat was walking behind me as I rested on a stone bench. I didn’t know what kind of diseases the cat might have. Dogs back at Rangsit are unhealthy looking, with patches of fur missing, or weird spots on their skin. These cats on the other hand had perfectly groomed hair and were constantly washing themselves. Most of the cats were nice looking, but if you happened to see the kittens, you were in love at once. There was a momma cat walking around with three adorable kittens, and I wished that I could have taken out my camera fast enough to take a picture of them. They were the cutest feline family I had ever seen!

Where does it live?:

The cats usually live outside on the streets and they survive off the food vendors or tourists who feed them. Of course, there are plenty of mice for the cats to also hunt. I happened to see a cat playing with a dead mouse and you can be sure that I screamed very loudly in fright. Almost everyone on the street heard me and turned around.
