Take Out in Thailand

Introduction:

The local foods in Thailand are mainly dishes with chicken, pork or beef. Most of the dishes are served with rice. There are hardly any vegetables in the dishes unless you count peppers. And not just any peppers. No, these peppers are the hot and spicy kind, the kind that makes you reach for cold water and put out the fire in your mouth. Of course, the best dishes are the spicy ones. Red curry, Thai noodles, pork stew...all of these dishes have one thing in common. You probably guessed it: they are all spicy. However, Thai people are used to foreigners offering pleas in regards to making food less spicy. Some menus and restaurants even offer the same spicy dishes, but without the peppers. It just goes to show what a friendly and welcoming country Thailand really is!

What food did I try?:

Today, I tried green chicken curry. I had been avoiding the curries for a while, but the fragrant smells coming through the restaurant doors were so inviting, I knew that I had to try it. It was after school and my friends and I were starving, ready to eat a hot meal before walking home and shutting ourselves in our air-conditioned rooms. So when we passed by a local curry restaurant, I voiced my opinion and said we should stop in. Now, I am Mexican and most recipes my mother cooks involve spices, chiles and peppers, so I thought that I would be brave and try it.
