Take Out in Thailand

My friends are from South Korea and Nigeria, and they too are used to spicy foods from their countries. They each have dishes that are spicy to foreigners and even dishes that are too spicy for experienced taste buds! We wanted to be brave so we sat down at the long tables and ordered curry.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt nervous placing the order but did not immediately ask the waiter to make it less spicy for me. I was feeling reckless. My friends felt the same way. One ordered spaghetti with curry sauce while the other opted for beef and vegetables in some stew. I ordered green curry and my stomach growled loudly at the smells floating around the small shop. The seasoning used to make the curry is a mystery to me. Back home, one of my favorite places is a small Indian restaurant called Taj Mahal. It smelled exactly the same here in Thailand as it does in that restaurant, so I felt a little bit safer and more sure of myself. I had not had curry in a while, almost four months since my last trip to the Indian restaurant, so I was really excited to taste something familiar. Of course, the curry back home is a lot sweeter and less spicy, mostly because my friends with whom I go to the restaurant always order curry without the spiciness. However, here I wanted to taste something more authentic. Thailand has a mixture of visitors and inhabitants, so I thought that it was a good place to start tasting more authentic curry without having to travel as much. Curry is now a widespread food choice in most parts of the world. Yet I was excited to try curry in Asia.

How is the food prepared?:

The food was prepared hot and at the time of ordering.
