Let Me Introduce Myself

Now, this year, my dream has come true! I have recieved the amazing opportunity to study abroad in London! Even more, I am studying theater. I live in a flat (apartment) right above my school and I am only a short walk from the West End! In my short time here I have already seen several shows that explore many different cultures and ideas.

One show that I found really interesting was called "The Jungle." It was a show based on a true story of a group of refugees who attempted to build their own city while waiting to immigrate into the U.K. The show was really successful at immersing the audience into the culture of the characters. This production made use of television screens around the theater to show footage of real world examples of what was happening in the play. After the show, I was able to do further research and learn more about the issues that were highlighted in the performance.

Some of the other shows I have seen are "Wicked," a show based on the Wizard of Oz; "The Humans," a story about an American family at Thanksgiving; "Exit the King," a funny play that follows a sick king who worries what will happen to his kingdom after he dies; and my all-time favorite musical, "Les Miserables," a story about the French Revolution. I haven't seen any performances by the Royal Ballet yet, but I will definitely try to while I am here!

This week I will be going to visit Buckingham Palace. This is where the Queen of England lives! I'm really excited, and I can't wait to tell you all about it!
