Hi, my name is Araya Sykes. I am from Greensboro, North Carolina. My family includes my parents, my two brothers and my labrador retriever. I have always been interested in traveling and learning new things. I love to read books about far away places, and I also enjoy maps and globes. Watching movies set in other countries has also been really fun for me!
The more I learned about places outside of Greensboro as I was growing up, the more I grew to love England and specifically the city of London. I liked learning about this city because of the unique performance arts culture. Growing up, I was really involved in the performing arts. I enjoyed going to see theater. I found it really cool to hear stories and learn by watching a world come alive right in front of me with live actors. It's almost like magic. I also really loved to dance. Ballet was my favorite. It really interested me how the dancers can tell a story without ever speaking a word. That's pretty awesome!
As I continued researching different places in the world, I learned about the Royal Ballet, one of the greatest ballet companies in the world, and the West End, one of the greatest theater districts in the world. Both of these are located in London, England. The works that they put on were aboslutely amazing, and I began to dream about going to visit London and see them in person.
