Travel News

We had ten days off in September for the Holiday of Sukkot, where I travelled with about ten of my friends to the island of Cyprus. This was only about a 45 minute flight. Cyprus is a gorgeous island that is half Greek and half Turkish. We stayed on the Greek side. For Hanukkah, I travelled to Budapest, Hungary, which was a three-hour flight and then took the train to the Vienna, Austria. Finally, as I said we spent this past weekend in Romania. Israel is a lot closer to Europe than America is, and I have a lot of trips planned for the future!

How did I get around this week?:

I usually use the bus system to get around in Rehovot. We have a “Rav Kav”, which is our monthly bus pass that makes the bus so easy! To get to school, I walk about 20 minutes to another teacher’s house, and she drives me to school. She doesn’t speak English, but we try our best to communicate with one another! I feel so appreciative that she has welcomed me into the community and always makes sure I have a way to get to school.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

When we were in Romania, my roommate Morgan and I spent Saturday touring the middle region of the country, Transylvania. We visited the castle rumored to be Dracula’s, Bran Castle (although Dracula was actually a fictional character and the author never visited the country of Romania). We also visited Peles Castle and the small, beautiful city of Brasov. Brasov has a sign in the mountains similar to the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles. This year, Romania celebrated 100 years of existence, so at night the sign was lit up in the Romanian colors, blue, yellow and red. It was a beautiful day spent in the mountains!
