Traveler Bio

Hello All!

My name is Wasseem, pronounced "wa-sseem," and I am currently studying engineering in Shanghai, China. I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas to a pair of Ethiopian immigrants. I am a first generation college student studying mechanical engineering at my home university of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

This past summer I was able to intern at Texas Instruments, Inc. in Dallas, as a manufacturing engineering intern. That experience was absolutely amazing for me because I was able to apply my knowledge and love for mechanical engineering to my internship. Going abroad and having different internship experiences is great because it will help me determine what industry I would like to work in after I graduate. As of right now, I am still trying to figure out where I want to go, but manufacturing at Texas Instruments was absolutely amazing.

My favorite things to do are meet new people, travel and play sports. I played American football and basketball growing up, but I think volleyball has overtaken both of those sports as my favorite. I also enjoy playing board games like chess, especially with a group of good friends. I really enjoy listening to music and my music can range from Adele and John Legend to Kendrick Lamar and Travis Scott.

I am really excited to be in China and I hope my journey can give you a feel for what it is like to live here.
