Journey to the Starting Point

Introduction:

There is something about booking a flight to another country that makes me (Tessa) want to start packing my bags immediately. As soon as I had my travel plans in place for this two-month expedition to Italy, my mind also turned to leftover food, and how much I wouldn't want to see what would happen to abandoned milk, fruit or most anything in my kitchen that was left to spoil.

For my journey to Italy, I planned to fly out of my local airport in Boston. The week leading up to the flight, I had piles of clothes to sort through, and I had to make sure I took just the right amount of clothing for the two-month expedition. We have very limited space in our rooms aboard the JOIDES Resolution, so I couldn't actually bring two-months worth of clothes. Instead, I packed one week's worth of clothes and planned to make good use of the laundry facilities on the ship.

In addition to finding and buying my airplane ticket, I had to make sure I knew how to get to the aiport. In Boston, we have a good public transportation system, but it would have been a struggle to get there with my two pieces of luggages. I decided to be drive to the aiport instead.

Larkin was filming a video for a yoga resort in Costa Rica, so she had to think hard about what she would be packing well before I did!
