Buddhism is an important religion in China and a monastery is a place where young monks come to train in the religious teachings of a man that lived long ago named Siddhartha Gautama, also known as “Buddha”. At the Po Lin Monastery, monks have built one of the largest statues of the Buddha in the entire world, and people come from all over to see it. I also took advantage of the tall vantage point to go hiking and look down on the city below. Look at these pictures— can you believe how big this place is? Hong Kong has been the center of international trade in Asia since the early 1900s, and people from all over the world call it home. That also means the city is full of delicious food and drinks.
The main part of the city is built on an island, and a small harbor separates the island from a peninsula on the other side, called Kowloon. Many millions of people live in Kowloon, too. You can take a ferry across the harbor to get to each side, kind of like the Staten Island Ferry that connects different parts of New York City.
