On any given day, I might witness a breathtaking sunrise or catch vendors making delicious carne asada (roasted beef) street tacos as our bus zooms by. When I am not gazing out of the window, I enjoy reading my favorite books or engaging in lively conversation with fellow passengers--my time on the bus has been a great way for me to connect with people from Mérida, as well as those visiting from other parts of Mexico or even traveling from other countries around the world!
Walking
Sometimes, the best way to truly understand a city is by walking it.The streets of Mérida are full of history, culture and the unmistakable Yucatecan folklore. Whether it’s exploring the famed Plaza Grande, a beautiful park located in the center of Mérida known for hosting colorful cultural events, live music and bailes típicos (traditional dances); or just having a chance to grab some of those delicious tacos I usually admire from the bus - taking a nice stroll around Mérida is an amazing way to truly get to know every unique crevice of the city It’s also an energizing, yet peaceful, way to get some exercise!
Pedicabs
Although I have not had an opportunity to ride one yet, I would love to take a pedicab around town! Pedicabs (or bike taxis) are bikes that have attached seats for passengers. As in many countries (including parts of the U.S.), pedicabs are quite common in Mérida for both local residents and tourists alike! In a hot-temperature city that seldom has air-conditioned buses, for me, pedicabs offer a golden opportunity to explore the city while getting fresh, cool air!
