Was zu essen = What to eat?

The Essen (food) really reflects the area where it's produced, as some neighborhoods are elegant and others are more edgy.

We can also prepare food in our own kitchens. Cooking this way is similar to back home as Germany shares a lot of the same modern appliances. One thing we don't have here is an oven, which influences a lot of the dishes we make back home. We tried to bake brownies in a toaster oven once... that was schlecht (bad).

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Despite the prevalence of international options, the food is definitely connected to the local environment. That's because Berlin is a very international place. Citizens are typically welcoming of others, to combat their dark past during World War II. Another point of connection is the sustainability of food. Many restaurants have local supply chains or are entirely vegetarian or vegan. These aspects and more all combine to create an exciting and engaging food culture.
