Dreams of Cheese

When I try most cheeses, I cut a piece of the cheese off and place it on top a piece of bread. This cheese was so soft that I was able to spread it on the bread like butter. Sometimes it's eaten with a spoon. The taste is not strong, and it reminds me of the string cheese that I got for lunch when I was younger. I liked the cheese very much and would definitely recommend it to you guys.

How is the food prepared?:

Camembert cheese was first made more than 300 years ago in Normandy, France. It is produced with cow’s milk and is left to ripen for a minimum of three weeks. The process of making cheese like this is actually pretty complicated, and involves adding a type of Penicillium mold to make the rind! After the cheese is ripe, it is wrapped in paper and then boxed in a wooden box. The cheese is usually served with toast and fruits like grapes and pears.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

The production of this regional cheese helps local farmers by creating jobs in the places where it is produced. It also protects a recipe that has been around for hundreds of years. In order to be called Camembert de Normandie, or Camembert from Normandy, the cheese has to be made with milk from Normande cows, called vaches normandes in French.
