Navigating China's Transit

One way to avoid this issue is to pull up a maps app on your phone and show them where you want to go. The app can also show you the fastest route to get to your destination. An even better solution is to download an app called Didi that is the same as Uber and Lyft that you may be familiar with in the U.S. The nice thing about Didi is that you can see your route and how much the ride will cost. The car color and license plate number is given to you and you can see how far they are from your location so it feels very safe and secure.

Bus/Coach - When I travel in groups with others from my program, we often take a large bus or a coach. I don’t know exactly how much this costs but I would assume it is more expensive than using public transit. It is a great way to travel with luggage and lots of people, because getting around a city can be more difficult.

Trains - The best option for long distance travel is the high-speed train that can take you across China to different provinces much faster than other transit options. The train has similar interiors to those that I have been on in the U.S. with features such as overhead luggage racks, comfortable reclining seats and restrooms in each compartment. What sets China’s high-speed trains apart from others across the world is revolutionary designs and technology that allow the trains to reach speeds of 250-350 km/h. In comparison, the fastest trains in the U.S. travel at about 110km/h speeds. Chinese trains are very sleek looking and are shaped like a bullet in the front that allows to be fast by avoiding friction on the tracks and airflow. China’s railway is also the largest in the world, and more tracks are being added as the country continues to develop.
