Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week I did not travel much at all, aside from the 15 minute car or bus rides to get to and from my school. My school is located in Ames, a pueblo (small town) just southwest of Santiago. I wanted a relaxing week here in Santiago after traveling around so much over the past few weeks.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

On this whole great journey I have undertaken so far, I have traveled to Italy, Switzerland, southwest Germany, several nearby cities in Galicia, Madrid, País Vasco (Basque Country in northern Spain), Asturias, and Porto, Portugal. In a couple of weeks, I will be going to Valencia in southeast Spain for a reunion with other Fulbrighters to discuss our experiences up until this point in our year abroad. I also hope to travel to Ireland with my family when they visit in March. The wonderful thing about being in Europe is that once you are here, it is very easy and relatively cheap to travel to different cities and countries.

How did I get around this week?:

To get to school, I either carpool with my bilingual coordinator Lucía or I take the bus from Santiago to Ames. Since my school is in a rather rural location, I have to walk about 20 minutes from the last bus stop to get to the school. In the city, I almost exclusively get around by simply walking, as Santiago is small enough to be traversed on foot.
