A Bite of Scottish Cuisine

Even though I can’t see myself ordering haggis on a regular basis, I can understand why it’s the national dish of Scotland.

How is the food prepared?:

Haggis comes in many different forms, including savory puddings, burgers and deep-fried sausages. Traditionally, all of the ingredients for haggis are mixed with a stock and boiled while encased in the sheep’s stomach. Today, artificial casing is often used instead of the stomach, and grocery stores are stocked with pre-cooked, frozen haggis to heat up at home.

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Did you know that Scotland has more sheep than people? It makes sense that sheep is a common source of food here. Haggis is an inexpensive dish that uses all parts of the sheep, and it is an easy way to get a protein-rich and tasty meal.
